Year Course is a professionally run, exciting and challenging full-time programme, which is designed to give chanichim an in-depth understanding of the complexities that make up modern Israel. The year is made up of three semesters, each lasting three-months. Everyone will participate in formal studies, volunteer throughout Israel, and have an opportunity to experience a new and different aspect of Israeli society.
All of the Year Course participants will be with American chanichim from Young Judaea, and members of the Israeli Scouts (Tzofim), as well as FZY chanichim from all over Britain.
The Main Elements of Year Course
Year Course contains a number of major components. The following is a brief outline of each of these elements; more details are given in the links.
Studies
On FZY Year Course, chanichim have the opportunity to study a huge variety of subjects and areas. Throughout their studies, participants will grapple with issues which are relevant to young British Jewish Zionists today. All studies are augmented by educational seminars and day trips in and around the local city. The studies are high level, serious and intense and chanichim should bare this in mind when applying for FZY Year Course.

Volunteering
FZY Year Course chanichim live and volunteer their time in towns and cities across Israel. They have the opportunity to volunteer in a huge variety of different placements. From teaching in schools, working in an orphanage, volunteering with Magen David Adom or working on Masada, there is an option for everyone! Learn more
Israel Experience
The Israel Experience section of Year Course gives chanichim the opportunity to spend time in a town or part of the country more on the periphery, both geographically and socio-economically, of Israeli society.
Living in the South of Israel allows Year Course chanichim to also experience a different part and lifestyle in Israel, it is a part of the country that most tourists do not get to see.
Chanichim will be able to choose from one of four options based in the South of Israel, each one focussing on a different aspect of Israeli society and each one tuned to different interests. The Army options (Sar-El and Marva) are integrated into these options. The difficulty here is having to choose only one option! Learn more
Army Experience
To fully understand Israeli society, FZY believes that it is important that participants have a significant interaction with the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). At no point are FZY chanichim members of the IDF or liable for any service of any description, rather they are volunteering and experiencing the life of a soldier of their own age. Learn more

Details on all of these options are available later in this brochure.
