FZY Year Course is not just the three main sections. There are so many extras provided on that are an essential parts of the programme and contribute to make FZY the best Year Course programme available. Below are just a selection of some of those extras:

Tiyulim
An important part of the Year Course programme are the tiyulim (hikes) that are held across the country. With such varied landscape and scenery, from green forests and hills with waterfalls in the North to the arid desert and dry riverbeds and mountains in the South, tiyulim are the chance for chanichim to get out and walk the land of Israel and join a tradition that millions of Israelis take part in every year.

There will be 2 to 3 tiyulim on Year Course covering the North and South of Israel and all Year Course tiyulim provide options of varying difficulty and are run for the whole of the Year Course programme together.

UJIA
FZY and the UJIA have been partners for over 40 years. As strategic and ideological partners it is important that chanichim get the opportunity to experience and understand the amazing work that the UJIA is carrying out throughout its projects in Israel. During the year chanichim will meet with key figures, innovators and leaders of the regions in the North of Israel and also get the chance to travel to the North and experience the projects first hand. The volunteering in the North will be interactive and meaningful and will have a significant encounter with the Ethiopian community.

Seminars
Throughout the year there are a series of seminars held across the country that explore a variety of topics relevant to Jewish life in the UK and the chanichjm’s return to campus and life in Britain. Topics include; Campus activism, What does it mean to be Jewish? Modern Israel and others. Some seminars are held with other British Zionist Youth Movements.

Israeli Chanichim
Year Course chanichim are living in Israel on the Year Course programme and as such we feel it is important to have deep and lasting connections and interactions with Israelis of the same age. In addition to the interactions that take place naturally by living and volunteering in cities and communities across Israel there are also two groups of Israelis on the Year Course programme. Both groups have taken a year before their Army service to join the programme. One group are Israelis from the Partnership 2000 region of the North of Israel and the other are from FZY’s sister movement, the Israeli Scouts. These chanichim join the programme and soon become good friends with the FZY chanichim as well as being able to advise them about all things Israeli or even help with ulpan!

American and European Chanichim
As well as Israeli chanichim there are also chanichim from all across North America. Canadians and Americans are also on the programme and with the other Europeans allow us to further our Zionist and Jewish message. Chanichim are able to discuss and discover the differences and similarities of Jewish life in the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, France, Sweden and many other countries. The relationships formed are life changing and the friendships last for life!
