The rich history of Israel is deeply influenced by other Jewish communities worldwide, whose connection to Israel spans past, present and future. Year Course Olami explores these connections with a series of week-long journeys outside of Israel to countries around the globe - from the cobblestone streets of Europe to the villages of Africa - to discover how they shaped the creation of Israel, and how Israel continues to shape them today.
Open to all participants, Year Course Olami is an extension of the main Year Course programme, with one trip scheduled during each programme component, and one for the week Year Course begins. Participants will tour famous (and not-so-famous) sites, visit embassies, attend cultural and social events, and meet their jewish peers in each country to experience first-hand their relationship to our history, and ours to theirs.
FZY Year Course currently offers two different Olami tracks, each focusing on a different region of the world, and a different theme in Jewish history.

Lost Jewish Communites
The history of the Jewish people is a story of immense victories and terrible losses and it is a story of survival. At times regional Jewish communities have been cut off from the outside Jewish world, have had to go into hiding, and have even practiced in secret to keep their Jewish traditions alive. Due to these and other reasons, this has led to the existence of several lost Jewish communities around the world. By spending time in such places as Portugal, Uganda, South Africa, and India, chanichim will come face to face with these communities, learn their history and hear their stories, and even meet with some of their descendants.
