Overall Programme and Goals
- To expand chanichim’s artistic knowledge and techniques with various methods.
- To learn from top professionals what it takes to become a top performer.
- To explore the broad spectrum of professional Performing Arts in Israel – from Music through Theatre to Dance.
- To become familiar with aspects of Israeli and Jewish contemporary performing arts.
The Year Course Performing Arts Track (YCPA) is an addition to the traditional Year Course programme, offering Community Volunteering, Jerusalem Studies, and the Israeli Experience sections. Each component features extended opportunities for volunteering, learning, and cultural enrichment.
YCPA offers an enriching educational programme to help develop the artist within during the year in Israel. Chanichim will take classes to enhance their technical abilities in singing and acting, meet with upcoming Israeli artists that are studying to become top performers in Israel at the Rimon Music School and Tel Aviv University Theatre department, thus understanding the level of commitment and way of life of those who want to become professional artists. Chanichim will visit the set of Israeli TV’s X Factor that is looking for the next big thing on stage and get to see what people are going through in their quest to become celebrities. Chanichim will discover the power of the stand up artist as they explore other new fields in the performing arts.
Prior experience with Performing Arts is needed in order to be a participant in this programme: Art school graduates or students with rich history of taking classes of Drama, Song and Dance will be appropriate for this programme. If you are a chanich/a who is willing to work hard and wants to challenge themselves whilst developing their artistic abilities – this is the programme for you!
No special Hebrew level is required.
Community Volunteering (September – November)
Living in Holon Community Volunteering (CV) chanichim will go through the regular CV programme: chanichim will be able to volunteer with the regular CV participants and all volunteer placements will be open for them. However, some volunteer placements will be unique to this track: volunteering in Shevrolet – Holon’s youth Music centre where chanihcim will give private lessons to youth and run jamming sessions, or teach Drama to children in an elementary school specialising in Theatre.
Once a week, the whole group will do a volunteer project with and for the community in the field of Performing Arts. Chanichim can suggest and choose a project that will educate and impact the community they live in, gaining experience and precious practice time whilst offering assistance to people who need it.
Once a week there will be a workshop class, where chanichim will practice and perform with the guidance of professional teachers:
- Improvisation – Learning efficient movement abilities, the chanichim will experience different aspects of preferment, incensing personal and team work.
- Rhythm basics – Differences between the time aspect in music and in dance, are complex and require listening, experimenting and understanding basic musical concepts and implementing them into field of dance and movement.
- Voice development and song presentation – Understanding the mechanism of music production: talking and singing. Students will practice personal and group exercises, developing Music hearing and familiarising with deferent music styles.

Jerusalem Studies (December – February)
The Jerusalem studies section will be the same section as referred to in the Year Course brochure. However all chanichim will have to take the Jewish Art History course.
In addition to the regular courses, there will be informal education opportunities for the Performing Arts track participants in a weekly group meeting/tour to special places:
- A visit to Hebrew University Theatre department taking part in a group workshop with first year Israeli students.
- Meeting artists that are also Olim (immigrants), like: Pablo Rosenberg, to learn from them how they became a main stream Israeli artist.
- Visiting the Yellow submarine club to hear Israeli rock concerts and see stand up shows.
Israel Experience (March – May)
The Israel Experience (IE) section of the programme will be the same as for the rest of YC: all options are open for chanichim to choose from – whether it is MADA or Marva, Kibbutz or a youth Village, the Year Course staff will encourage chanichm to keep on creating in thier free time. Chanichim will be able, however, to choose to volunteer in their field of expertise: creating and teaching Drama/Music Chugim (afternoon activities) for children or volunteering in Telma Yalin, Israel’s biggest and most famous Arts high school.
Regardless of thechoice of IE placement and where chanichim will live for the last component of the year, theywill be working on a final performance to be presented in front of all Year Course students, staff and guests, as part of the Year Course Sikkum.
