In this section of the programme chanichim will live and volunteer their time in different neighbourhoods in Bat Yam and Holon. These are poorer and socio-economically deprived areas where there is a need for volunteers and a huge number of volunteering possibilities.
All members of Year Course live in different apartments in the neighbourhoods in which they are volunteering (click here to see a sample apartment). Living in apartments, shopping, cooking and cleaning for themselves, chanichim learn to be independent and gain important experiences and skills that they will use later in life, particularly at university.
Chanichim volunteer most mornings and afternoons. Often part of each day is spent working in schools. Chanichim teach English and use other skills that they have to volunteer with children and adults in the community.
Other volunteer work placements include teaching English in local community centres, volunteering in soup kitchens, working with the elderly, sports and even the Save a Heart Foundation,
In order to improve the ability of our chanichim to communicate in the variety of placements, ulpan (Hebrew classes) is provided. The classes are provided at many different levels two to three times a week.
By volunteering in the Israeli communities chanichim learn about Israeli society by living and working with the community. Through their experience, they will gain insight and appreciation for the challenges facing the people of Israel today as well as gaining maturity, independence and life skills. |
